FrequentlyAsked Questions
aboutBrood War
You can find most of these questions from the StarCraft Compendium site
How
much is Brood War?
Blizzard's sugggested retail price is thirty dollars. However, prices will vary depending on the location you purchase it from.
Who
makes Brood War?
Blizzard
Entertainment.
What
is the maximum amount of player excepted in multiplayer?
In
all StarCraft combats, a maximum of eight players is accepted. This
includes when you are playing against 7 computers in single player custom
games.
Is
a CD Key required to play Brood War?
No,
to play Brood War, you need to original StarCraft, which does need
a CD Key.
What
should you do with the original StarCraft CD after Brood War is installed?
Store
it in a place where you can access it. Keep in mind that you will need it
to play original StarCraft Campaigns.
Can
you play against people who are using a different version of StarCraft
(original or Brood War) than you?
No.
When you first choose the Multiplayer option, you are asked what version,
either original or Brood War, you want to play. Once you log on, you can
only play against others who chose the same option as you.
Can
you cheat in multiplayer games?
Of
course not! Blizzard has not added any, most likely because that would
defeat the purpose of playing StarCraft, plus it wouldn't be fair if you
played against someone who didn't know cheats.
Have
any of the sounds changed in the existing units from the original
StarCraft?
Most
likely not.
Will
there be any other StarCraft after the Brood War expansion?
Well,
rumors say that Blizzard is producing a StarCraft II with two new races.
What
are the new units that have been added since the original StarCraft?
Protoss-
Corsair and Dark Templar- has the ability to meld into the Dark Archon
Zerg-
Lurker and Devourer
Terran-
Valkyrie and Medic
How
do you meld the Dark Templar into a Dark Archon and what is a Dark Archon?
When
you select two or more Dark Templar, you will see that in the lower right
hand corner with the different commands, there is and option that allows
you to meld. Sources from Battle.Net
say that like their brethren of High Templar, every two sacrifices that
the Dark Templar give up will result in one powerful psionic Dark Archon.
Although it lacks physical attack capability, its psychic powers make up
for the loss of that.
What
is the name of the attack that the Dark Templar have?
The
"Warp Blade".
Is
there a way to make your Dark Templar stronger?
Yes,
you can upgrade ground unit attacks at the Forge. All and all, the Dark
Templar is pretty strong to begin with.
What
is required to warp in a Dark Templar?
The
Templar Archives, which relies on the Citadel of Adun.
What
is required to warp in the Corsair?
The
Fleet Beacon.
Is
the Corsair good for offensive combat?
Well,
in numbers, yes, though Corsair is really made for support fighting in
Protoss. An advantage is the fact that its attack has splash, which will
effect surrounding units.
When
is the Disruption Web useful?
Its
useful if you want to temporarily block off ground units or buildings.
What the Disruption Web does is it casts a web over the area you choose,
and it disables any melee attacks, including those from any buildings
(Photon Cannons, Missile Turrets, etc.). Then again, something you might
find cool is that though the units under can't attack you, you can still
attack it! Anything within the web may still use special attacks, for
example, the High Templar can still use its Psionic Storm, which can cause
concussive damage when used in mass quantities.
The
Corsair is fast and very easy to build early in the game. Why isn't that
called the "Scout"?
Three
reasons. First of all, the actual Scout itself can also attack ground,
unlike the Corsair. Also, the Scout is fast too. You just have to upgrade
at the Fleet Beacon. Lastly, don't forget, you can also increase a Scout's
sight range, which makes it the perfect "scouting
vehicle".
What
is required to build a Valkyrie?
You
need a Starport (obviously) with an attached control tower, and the
Armory.
Can
a medic heal herself?
No,
but if you have more than one, these medics can heal each other,
which is definitely very useful.
What
is required for a medic to heal a unit(s)?
A
small amount of energy.
If
a unit that is blinded my a medic has a detection capability, what will
happen?
That
unit will not be able to detect, but the range will be reduced to one
"matrix".
What
does the Acid Spore of the Devourer do?
It
will increase the "cool down" rate of that unit. "Cool
down" is the time it takes for each unit to start firing its attack
again. The lower the cool down rate, the faster or more rapid its attack
is.
How
do you get a Lurker?
Once
you research at the Hydralisk Den, every Hydralisk that you have possesses
the capability to "morph" into a Lurker.
I
don't understand how a Lurker attacks. How does it work?
You
have to burrow a Lurker in order for it to attack. It has something called
"Subterranean Spikes" that shoot out of the ground in a straight
path, attacking anything that unfortunately gets in its path.
Will
the Lurker damage allies that get in his path too?
Yes,
the Lurker will damage allies, but not the own units of the player.
Can
the Psionic Storm of the High Templar damage undetected Lurkers?
Like
all undetected units- yes.
What
makes the Dark Archon so powerful?
Its
psychic capabilities. These include Maelstrom, Feedback, and Mind Control.
Feedback works like a double header. First it drains energy from a unit,
and then that energy is forces against them, draining its HP. Feedback
will temporarily paralyze, or rather freeze a unit. Mind Control is self
explanatory. It will control units that do not belong to that player, and
move them to that player's side. Notice that all these powers require a
piece of the energy that the Dark Archon contains, plus it will make the Archon lose its sheilds.
What
happens after you Mind Control a unit that already has abilities that need
to be researched that you don't have?
You
will gain access to that technology, meaning you will not have to research
it yourself. Any other unit that you have will also have access. The only
thing you wont get is the upgrades for the armor and attack levels.
Why
are Overlords so slow?
Next question.
Can
Protoss heal?
It
depends. For their shields, yes, those do heal. But, for their HP, no,
they will remain the same health until they are attacked. The only exception for this is if you mind control your ally's medics, or mind control the scv and make your own. The medics will heal any of your Protoss organic units, or the nonrobotic units. This includes zealots, high templar, and dark templar. Also, for the
shields, keep some shield batteries in handy. Those will bring your units'
shields up at a very fast rate.
